Construction Guide (we apologize it's in Spanish, we are working on the English version).

Description and Technical Data

Like the ICF Solid Wall blocks, the ICF Post & Beam blocks are composed of two parallel foam (EPS) panels, but instead of having a solid core, these ICF blocks have voids which create vertical posts or columns and horizontal beams within the foam panels. These voids are filled with concrete to form a reticular (grid) or reinforced concrete frame structure within the wall. Steel rebar is placed inside the voids before pouring the concrete, providing structural strength.

Structural Resistance | Load Capacity:

The Post & Beam design creates a highly efficient load-bearing structure, with the concrete columns and beams effectively distributing loads throughout the wall.  The reinforced concrete grid offers excellent resistance to seismic forces, making it a preferred option in earthquake-prone areas.

Construction Efficiency | Ease of Use:
ICF Post & Beam blocks arrive ready to use on-site, and their modular nature speeds up the construction process.

Reduced Material Usage:
The grid structure can reduce the amount of concrete required by up to 40% compared to Flat Wall ICF walls, potentially lowering material costs without sacrificing strength.

Sustainability:
These blocks offer significant energy savings over the life of the building and reduce the carbon footprint compared to traditional construction methods.

In summary, ICF Post & Beam blocks combine the benefits of insulated concrete forms with greater design flexibility and structural efficiency, making them ideal for various types of construction projects, especially those requiring specific architectural features or load-bearing capacities.

  • Expanded Polystyrene Density: 16 kg/m³ (approximately 0.99 lb/ft³)

  • Linear Block Dimensions:

    • Length: 120 cm (47.24 inches) x Height: 30 cm (11.81 inches) x Width: 15 cm (5.91 inches)

    • Core: 8 cm (3.15 inches)

    • Cells: 8 cm (3.15 inches) x 10 cm (3.94 inches)

  • Corner Block (reversible):

    • Length: 56 cm (22.05 inches) + Corner: 40 cm (15.75 inches) x Height: 30 cm (11.81 inches) x Width: 15 cm (5.91 inches)

    • Core: 8 cm (3.15 inches)

    • Cells: 8 cm (3.15 inches) x 10 cm (3.94 inches)

  • Total Block Width: 15 cm (5.91 inches)

  • R-Value: R-24+

  • Side Panel Thickness: 3.3 cm (1.3 inches)

  • ICF Blocks per Square Meter: 2.77

  • Concrete per Square Meter: 0.10 m³ (3.53 cubic feet)

  • Concrete Type: f'c 150 kg/cm² (aggregate: 3/8" or smaller seal or gravel | slump of 15cm to 18cm)

  • Rebar per Square Meter: #3 and #4 on average - 3 kg (6.61 lbs)

  • Maximum Pour Height: 3 courses

Additional Notes:

  • R-value: This is a measure of thermal resistance. A higher R-value indicates better insulation.

  • f'c 150 kg/cm²: This is the compressive strength of the concrete.

  • Slump: This is a measure of the consistency of the concrete.
